⁴¹ With them were Heman,^(A) Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen and designated by name^(B) to give thanks to the Lord – for his faithful love endures for ever.^(C)

¹³ The trumpeters and singers joined together to praise and thank the Lord with one voice. They raised their voices, accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments,^(A) in praise to the Lord:

The temple, the Lord’s temple, was filled with a cloud.^(C)

²¹ Then he consulted with the people and appointed some to sing for the Lord and some to praise the splendour of his holiness.^(A) When they went out in front of the armed forces, they kept singing:^[a]

¹¹ They sang with praise and thanksgiving to the Lord: ‘For he is good; his faithful love to Israel endures for ever.’^(A) Then all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord because the foundation of the Lord’s house had been laid.^(B)

Israel’s Unfaithfulness to God

¹¹ a sound of joy and gladness, the voice of the groom and the bride,^(A) and the voice of those saying,

as they bring thanksgiving sacrifices to the temple of the Lord. For I will restore the fortunes of the land as in former times, says the Lord.
