⁷ But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or his stature because I have rejected him. Humans do not see what the Lord sees,^[a] for humans see what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart.’^(A)

⁹ ‘As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind,^(A) for the Lord searches every heart and understands the intention of every thought.^(B) If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you for ever.^(C)
