²⁴ Saul then removed his clothes and also prophesied before Samuel; he collapsed and lay naked^(A) all that day and all that night. That is why they say, ‘Is Saul also among the prophets? ’^(B)

¹⁴ So Amos answered Amaziah, ‘I was^[a] not a prophet or the son of a prophet;^[b](A) rather, I was^[c] a herdsman,^(B) and I took care of sycamore figs. ¹⁵ But the Lord took me from following the flock^(C) and said to me, “Go, prophesy to my people Israel.” ’^(D)

⁵⁴ He went to his home town^(A) and began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, ‘Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?^{(B) 55} Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?^(C) Isn’t his mother called Mary, and his brothers James,^(D) Joseph,^[a] Simon, and Judas?^{(E) 56} And his sisters, aren’t they all with us? So where does he get all these things? ’ ⁵⁷ And they were offended by him.

Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honour except in his home town and in his household.’^(F)
