⁴⁸ God – he grants me vengeance
and casts down peoples under me.^(A)

²⁰ But, Lord of Armies, who judges righteously,
who tests^(A) heart^[a] and mind,^(B)
let me see your vengeance on them,
for I have presented my case to you.^(C)

I am about to champion your cause^(A)
and take vengeance on your behalf;
I will dry up her sea^(B)
and make her fountain run dry.

² The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord takes vengeance
and is fierce in^[a] wrath.
The Lord takes vengeance against his foes;^(A)
he is furious with his enemies.^(B)

Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay,^[a][b]

The Lord will judge his people.^[c](A)
