² For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord^(A) will come just like a thief^(B) in the night.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord^(A) will come like a thief;^[a](B) on that day the heavens will pass away^(C) with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved,^(D) and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed.^[b][c]

³ Remember, then, what you have received and heard; keep it, and repent. If you are not alert, I will come^[a] like a thief, and you have no idea at what hour I will come upon you.^(A)

¹⁵ ‘Look, I am coming like a thief. Blessed^(A) is the one who is alert and remains clothed^[a](B) so that he may not go around naked and people see his shame.’^(C)
