David censa la población(A)
21 El ángel acusador se puso contra los israelitas e incitó a David a hacer un censo de Israel. 2 Entonces David ordenó a Joab y a los jefes del pueblo:
—Vayan y hagan el censo de Israel desde Beerseba hasta Dan, y tráiganme el informe para que yo sepa cuántos son.
3 Pero Joab respondió:
—Que el Señor aumente su pueblo cien veces más de lo que es ahora; ¿pero acaso no son todos ellos servidores de Su Majestad? ¿Por qué desea esto Su Majestad? ¿Para qué hacerse culpable Israel?
4 Sin embargo, la orden del rey se impuso a Joab, y éste se retiró, recorrió todo Israel y regresó a Jerusalén. 5 Joab entregó a David las cifras del censo de la población, y resultó que en todo Israel había un millón cien mil hombres aptos para la guerra, y cuatrocientos setenta mil en Judá. 6 Pero no se incluyó en el censo a las tribus de Leví y de Benjamín, porque a Joab no le gustó la orden del rey.
7 A Dios le pareció mal todo esto, y mandó un castigo a Israel.

David Counts the Fighting Men(A)
21 Satan(B) rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census(C) of Israel. 2 So David said to Joab and the commanders of the troops, “Go and count(D) the Israelites from Beersheba to Dan. Then report back to me so that I may know how many there are.”
3 But Joab replied, “May the Lord multiply his troops a hundred times over.(E) My lord the king, are they not all my lord’s subjects? Why does my lord want to do this? Why should he bring guilt on Israel?”
4 The king’s word, however, overruled Joab; so Joab left and went throughout Israel and then came back to Jerusalem. 5 Joab reported the number of the fighting men to David: In all Israel(F) there were one million one hundred thousand men who could handle a sword, including four hundred and seventy thousand in Judah.
6 But Joab did not include Levi and Benjamin in the numbering, because the king’s command was repulsive to him. 7 This command was also evil in the sight of God; so he punished Israel.
