²¹ Indeed, we are giving careful thought^(A) to do what is right,^(B) not only before the Lord but also before people.

⁸ Finally^[a] brothers and sisters, whatever is true,^(A) whatever is honourable,^(B) whatever is just,^(C) whatever is pure,^(D) whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable – if there is any moral excellence^(E) and if there is anything praiseworthy – dwell on these things.

¹² Conduct^(A) yourselves honourably among the Gentiles,^[a] so that when they slander you as evildoers, they will observe your good works and will glorify God on the day he visits.^(B)
