¹⁷ Then King Ahaz cut off the frames of the water carts^[a](A) and removed the bronze basin from each of them. He took the basin^[b](B) from the bronze oxen that were under it and put it on a stone pavement.

⁴ It stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east. The basin was on top of them and all their hindquarters were towards the centre. ⁵ The basin was eight centimetres^[a] thick, and its rim was fashioned like the brim of a cup or a lily blossom. It could hold forty-four thousand litres.^[b]

²⁰ As for the two pillars, the one basin, with the twelve bronze oxen under it, and the water carts^[a] that King Solomon had made for the Lord’s temple, the weight of the bronze of all these articles was beyond measure.
