¹⁶ ¶ ^(A)Now in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, and of Jehoshaphat King of Judah, ^[a]Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began ^[b]to reign.

¹⁷ He was two and thirty years old, when he began to reign: and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

¹⁸ And he walked in the ways of the Kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the ^[c]daughter of Ahab was his wife, and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.

¹⁹ Yet the Lord would not destroy Judah, for David his servant’s sake, ^(B)as he had promised him to give him a light, and to his children forever.

² But Jehosheba the daughter of king Joram, and sister to Ahaziah ^[a]took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the King’s sons that should be slain, both him and his nurse, keeping them in ^[b]the bedchamber, and they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.

¹¹ And Joram his son, and Ahaziah his son, and Joash his son,

⁸ And Asa begat Jehoshaphat. And Jehoshaphat begat Joram. And Joram begat Uzziah.
