8 Emlékezz arra, hogy Jézus Krisztus, aki Dávid utóda, feltámadt a halottak közül. Erről szól az én evangéliumom,
9 amelyért még bilincseket is viselek, mint egy gonosztevő. Az Isten igéje viszont nincs bilincsbe verve.
10 Ezért tehát mindent elviselek a választottakért, hogy ők is elnyerjék a Krisztus Jézusban való üdvösséget örök dicsőséggel.
11 Igaz beszéd ez: Ha vele együtt haltunk meg, vele együtt fogunk élni is.
12 Ha tűrünk, vele együtt fogunk uralkodni is. Ha megtagadjuk, ő is megtagad minket.
13 Ha hűtlenek vagyunk, ő hű marad, mert ő magát meg nem tagadhatja.
Óvás a szóharcoktól
14 Ezekre emlékeztesd, és az Isten színe előtt bizonyságot téve kérd őket: ne folytassanak haszontalan szóharcot a hallgatók romlására.
15 Igyekezz kipróbált emberként megállni az Isten előtt, mint olyan munkás, aki nem vall szégyent, hanem helyesen fejtegeti az igazság igéjét.
16 A szentségtörő, üres fecsegők elől pedig térj ki, mert egyre messzebb mennek az istentelenségben,
17 és szavuk úgy terjed, mint a rákos fekély. Közülük való Hümenaiosz és Filétosz,
18 akik az igazság kérdésében eltévelyedtek, amikor azt mondják, hogy a feltámadás már megtörtént, és ezzel feldúlják egyesek hitét.

8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead,(A) descended from David.(B) This is my gospel,(C) 9 for which I am suffering(D) even to the point of being chained(E) like a criminal. But God’s word(F) is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything(G) for the sake of the elect,(H) that they too may obtain the salvation(I) that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.(J)
11 Here is a trustworthy saying:(K)
If we died with him,
we will also live with him;(L)
12 if we endure,
we will also reign with him.(M)
If we disown him,
he will also disown us;(N)
13 if we are faithless,
he remains faithful,(O)
for he cannot disown himself.
Dealing With False Teachers
14 Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words;(P) it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.(Q) 16 Avoid godless chatter,(R) because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus(S) and Philetus, 18 who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place,(T) and they destroy the faith of some.(U) 19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm,(V) sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,”(W) and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord(X) must turn away from wickedness.”
