²¹ ‘In his place a despised^(A) person will arise; royal honours will not be given to him, but he will come during a time of peace^[a](B) and seize the kingdom by intrigue.

³² With flattery he will corrupt those who act wickedly towards the covenant, but the people who know their God will be strong and take action.^(A)

¹⁵ ‘Be on your guard against false prophets^(A) who come to you in sheep’s^(B) clothing^(C) but inwardly are ravaging wolves.^(D)

²⁹ I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. ³⁰ Men will rise up even from your own number and distort the truth to lure the disciples into following them.^(A)

¹⁸ because such people do not serve our Lord Christ^(A) but their own appetites.^[a](B) They deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting with smooth talk and flattering words.^(C)
