¹⁰ No one among you is to sacrifice his son or daughter in the fire,^[a](A) practise divination, tell fortunes, interpret omens, practise sorcery, ¹¹ cast spells, consult a medium or a spiritist, or enquire of the dead.^{(B) 12} Everyone who does these acts is detestable to the Lord, and the Lord your God is driving out the nations before you because of these detestable acts.

¹⁹ When they say to you, ‘Enquire of the mediums and the spiritists who chirp and mutter,’^(A) shouldn’t a people enquire of their God?^[a] Should they enquire of the dead on behalf of the living?^(B)
