²⁹ so that at noon you will grope as a blind person gropes in the dark.^(A) You will not be successful in anything you do. You will only be oppressed and robbed continually, and no one will help you.^(B)

³¹ Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat any of it. Your donkey will be taken away from you and not returned to you. Your flock will be given to your enemies, and no one will help you.

³⁶ Then Gideon said to God, ‘If you will deliver Israel by me, as you said,

³⁹ As surely as the Lord lives who saves Israel, even if it is because of my son Jonathan, he must die! ’ Not one of the troops answered him.

²⁰ It will be a sign and witness to the Lord of Armies in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the Lord because of their oppressors, he will send them a saviour and leader, and he will rescue them.^(A)
