¹⁴ His wife Zeresh and all his friends told him, ‘Have them build a gallows twenty-three metres^[a] tall.^(A) Ask the king in the morning to hang Mordecai on it. Then go to the banquet with the king and enjoy yourself.’ The advice pleased Haman, so he had the gallows constructed.^(B)

²⁴ The king then gave the command, and those men who had maliciously accused Daniel^[a](A) were brought and thrown into the lions’ den – they, their children, and their wives.^(B) They had not reached the bottom of the den before the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.
