²⁴ During the morning watch, the Lord looked down at the Egyptian forces from the pillar of fire^(A) and cloud, and threw the Egyptian forces into confusion.

²⁷ ‘I will cause the people ahead of you to feel terror^[a] and will throw into confusion^(A) all the nations you come to. I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you in retreat.^[b]

¹⁰ The Lord threw them into confusion^(A) before Israel. He defeated them in a great slaughter at Gibeon, chased them along the ascent of Beth-horon, and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah.
