⁴ ‘As for me, here is my covenant with you: you will become the father of many nations. ⁵ Your name will no longer be Abram;^[a] your name will be Abraham,^[b] for I will make you the father of many nations.^{(A) 6} I will make you extremely fruitful and will make nations and kings come from you.

¹⁷ God heard the boy crying, and the^[a] angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, ‘What’s wrong, Hagar? Don’t be afraid, for God has heard the boy crying from the place where he is. ¹⁸ Get up, help the boy up, and grasp his hand, for I will make him a great nation.’
