⁴ In him was life,^[a](A) and that life was the light^(B) of men. ⁵ That light shines^(C) in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome^[b] it.^(D)

¹⁶ who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light,^(A) whom no one has seen or can see,^(B) to him be honour and eternal power.^(C) Amen.^(D)

¹⁷ Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.^(A)

⁵ This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light,^(A) and there is absolutely no darkness in him.^(B)
