¹¹ ‘I am the good shepherd.^(A) The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.^(B)

¹⁴ ‘I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and my own know me,

¹⁷ This is why the Father loves me,^(A) because I lay down my life^(B) so that I may take it up again. ¹⁸ No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have the right to lay it down, and I have the right to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.’^(C)

³⁷ ‘Lord,’ Peter asked, ‘why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life^(A) for you.’^(B)

³⁸ Jesus replied, ‘Will you lay down your life for me? Truly I tell you, a cock will not crow until you have denied me three times.

¹³ No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life^(A) for his friends.
