Jesus Predicts His Departure

²¹ Then he said to them again, ‘I’m going away;^(A) you will look for me, and you will die in your sin.^(B) Where I’m going, you cannot come.’^(C)

²² So the Jews said again, ‘He won’t kill himself, will he, since he says, “Where I’m going, you cannot come”^(D)? ’

³³ Little children, I am with you a little while longer.^(A) You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so now I tell you, “Where I am going, you cannot come.”^(B)

Peter’s Denials Predicted

³⁶ ‘Lord,’ Simon Peter said to him, ‘where are you going? ’

Jesus answered, ‘Where I am going^(A) you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later.’

⁷ Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth.^(A) It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counsellor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you.^(B)
