¹⁴ ‘Therefore, fear the Lord and worship him in sincerity and truth.^(A) Get rid of the gods your ancestors worshipped^(B) beyond the River Euphrates and in Egypt, and worship the Lord.

²³ ‘Then get rid of the foreign gods that are among you and turn your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.’

¹⁶ So they got rid of the foreign gods^(A) among them and worshipped the Lord,^(B) and he became weary^(C) of Israel’s misery.
