⁷ ‘Oh, Lord God,’ Joshua said, ‘why did you ever bring these people across the Jordan to hand us over to the Amorites for our destruction? If only we had been content to remain on the other side of the Jordan!

⁶ But I protested, ‘Oh no, Lord God! Look, I don’t know how to speak^(A) since I am only a youth.’^(B)

¹⁴ But I said, ‘Oh, Lord God, I have never been defiled. From my youth until now I have not eaten anything that died naturally or was mauled by wild beasts.^(A) And impure meat has never entered my mouth.’^(B)
