⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his master’s will and didn’t prepare himself or do it^[a] will be severely beaten.^{(A) 48} But the one who did not know and did what deserved^(B) punishment will receive a light beating. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be expected.^[b](C)

⁴¹ ‘If you were blind,’ Jesus told them, ‘you wouldn’t have sin.^(A) But now that you say, “We see,” your sin remains.

²¹ For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness^(A) than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy command^(B) delivered^(C) to them.^(D)
