⁴ John came baptising^[a](A) in the wilderness^(B) and proclaiming a baptism of repentance^(C) for the forgiveness^(D) of sins.^{(E) 5} The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem^(F) were going out to him, and they were baptised by him in the River Jordan,^(G) confessing^(H) their sins.^{(I) 6} John wore a camel-hair garment with a leather belt round his waist and ate locusts^(J) and wild honey.^(K)
