23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you are giving-a-tenth-of the mint and the dill and the cummin, and you neglected[a] the weightier things of the Law— the justice, and the mercy, and the faithfulness[b]. But you ought-to-have done these things, and not be neglecting those things. 24 Blind guides— the ones straining-out[c] the gnat, but swallowing[d] the camel!

- Matthew 23:23 That is, fidelity, being trustworthy. Or, faith.
- Matthew 23:24 Or, filtering.
- Matthew 23:24 Gnats and camels were both unclean under the Law of Moses. Jesus does not fault the Pharisees for their over-attention to micro-matters (they actually filtered the gnats out of their drinks), but for their under-attention to the big issues (they figuratively swallowed camels).
