² saying, ‘Where is he who has been born king of the Jews?^(A) For we saw his star at its rising^(B) and have come to worship him.’^[a]

³⁷ and said, ‘If you are the king of the Jews,^(A) save yourself! ’

³⁸ An inscription was above him:^[a] This Is the King of the Jews.

³⁹ You^(A) have a custom that I release one prisoner to you at the Passover. So, do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews? ’

³ And they kept coming up to him^(A) and saying, ‘Hail, king of the Jews! ’ and were slapping his face.
