Persecutions Predicted

⁹ ‘Then they will hand you over to be persecuted, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of my name.^(A)

² They will ban you from the synagogues.^(A) In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering service^(B) to God.

³⁶ Others experienced mocking and scourging, as well as bonds and imprisonment.^{(A) 37} They were stoned,^[a](B) they were sawn in two, they died by the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins,^(C) destitute, afflicted, and mistreated. ³⁸ The world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and on mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.
