²⁵ Large crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.^(A)

³ He went into all the vicinity of the Jordan,^(A) proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,^(B)

²⁸ All this happened in Bethany^[a] across the Jordan,^(A) where John was baptising.

²⁶ So they came to John and told him, ‘Rabbi,^(A) the one you testified about, and who was with you across the Jordan,^(B) is baptising – and everyone is going to him.’^(C)

Many beyond the Jordan Believe in Jesus

⁴⁰ So he departed again across the Jordan^(A) to the place where John^(B) had been baptising earlier, and he remained there.
