The First Disciples

¹⁸ As^(A) he was walking along the Sea of Galilee,^(B) he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter), and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea – for they were fishermen.

²¹ Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with Zebedee their father, preparing their nets, and he called them.

¹⁸ And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church,^(A) and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

⁴² and he brought Simon to Jesus.

When Jesus saw him, he said, ‘You are Simon, son of John.^[a] You will be called Cephas’^(A) (which is translated ‘Peter’^[b]).
