Rebuilding the Walls

3 Eliashib the high priest^(A) and his fellow priests began rebuilding the Sheep Gate.^(B) They dedicated it and installed its doors. After building the wall to the Tower of the Hundred and the Tower of Hananel,^(C) they dedicated it.

The Angle, Water Gate, and Tower on the Ophel

²⁰ After him Baruch son of Zabbai^[a] diligently repaired another section, from the Angle to the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest.^(A)

²¹ Beside him Meremoth^(A) son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz, made repairs to another section, from the door of Eliashib’s^(B) house to the end of his house.

⁴ Now before this, Eliashib the priest^(A) had been put in charge of the storerooms of the house of our God.^(B) He was a relative^[a] of Tobiah^(C)

⁷ so I could return to Jerusalem. Then I discovered the evil that Eliashib had done on behalf of Tobiah by providing him a room in the courts of God’s house.

²⁸ Even one of the sons of Jehoiada, son of Eliashib the high priest,^(A) had become a son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite.^(B) So I drove him away from me.^(C)
