40 just as the Lord commanded him through Moses. It was to be a reminder for the Israelites that no unauthorized person outside the lineage of Aaron should approach to offer incense before the Lord(A) and become like Korah and his followers.
41 The next day the entire Israelite community complained about Moses and Aaron,(B) saying, “You have killed the Lord’s people!” 42 When the community assembled against them, Moses and Aaron turned toward the tent of meeting, and suddenly the cloud covered it, and the Lord’s glory appeared.

New International Version
40 as the Lord directed him through Moses. This was to remind the Israelites that no one except a descendant of Aaron should come to burn incense(A) before the Lord,(B) or he would become like Korah and his followers.(C)
41 The next day the whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. “You have killed the Lord’s people,” they said.
42 But when the assembly gathered in opposition(D) to Moses and Aaron and turned toward the tent of meeting, suddenly the cloud covered it and the glory of the Lord(E) appeared.
