O God, Restore Us

For the choir director. [a]El Shoshannim. [b]Eduth. Of Asaph. A Psalm.

80 O (A)Shepherd of Israel, give ear,
You who guide (B)Joseph like a flock;
You who (C)are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth!
Before (D)Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, (E)stir up Your might
And come to save us!
O God, (F)restore us
And (G)cause Your face to shine upon us, that we would be saved.

O (H)Yahweh God of hosts,
(I)How long will You [c]smolder against the prayer of Your people?
You have fed them with the (J)bread of tears,
And You have made them to drink tears in [d]large measure.
You set us as [e]an object of strife (K)to our neighbors,
And our enemies mock us among themselves.
O God of hosts, restore us
And cause Your face to shine upon us, that we might be saved.

You removed a (L)vine from Egypt;
You (M)drove out the [f]nations and then You (N)planted it.
You (O)cleared the ground before it,
And it (P)took deep root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shadow,
And [g]the cedars of God with its (Q)boughs.
11 It sent out its branches (R)to the sea
And its shoots to the River.
12 Why have You (S)broken down its [h]hedges,
So that all who pass that way pick its fruit?
13 A boar from the forest (T)devours it
And whatever moves in the field feeds on it.

14 O God of hosts, (U)return now, we beseech You;
(V)Look down from heaven and see, and visit this vine,
15 Even the [i](W)sapling which Your right hand has planted,
And on the [j]son whom You have [k]strengthened for Yourself.
16 It is (X)burned with fire, it is cut down;
They perish at the (Y)rebuke of Your face.
17 Let (Z)Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand,
Upon the son of man whom You (AA)made strong for Yourself.
18 Then we shall not (AB)turn back from You;
(AC)Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.
19 O Yahweh God of hosts, (AD)restore us;
Cause Your face to shine upon us, that we might be saved.

Oh That My People Would Listen to Me

For the choir director. According to the Gittith. Of Asaph.

81 (AE)Sing for joy to God our (AF)strength;
Make a loud (AG)shout to the (AH)God of Jacob.
Lift up a song of praise, strike (AI)the tambourine,
The sweet sounding (AJ)lyre with the (AK)harp.
Blow the trumpet at the (AL)new moon,
At the full moon, on our (AM)feast day.
For it is a statute for Israel,
(AN)A judgment of the God of Jacob.
He established it for a testimony in Joseph
When he (AO)went forth over the land of Egypt.
I heard a (AP)language that I did not know:

“I [l](AQ)relieved his shoulder of the burden,
His hands were freed from the [m]basket.
You (AR)called in distress and I rescued you;
I (AS)answered you in the hiding place of thunder;
I tested you at the (AT)waters of Meribah. [n]Selah.
(AU)Hear, O My people, and I will testify against you;
O Israel, if you (AV)would listen to Me!
Let there be no (AW)strange god among you;
And you shall not worship a foreign god.
10 (AX)I am Yahweh your God,
Who brought you up from the land of Egypt;
(AY)Open your mouth wide and I will (AZ)fill it.

11 “But My people (BA)did not listen to My voice,
And Israel was not willing to obey Me.
12 So I (BB)released [o]them over to the stubbornness of their heart,
That they would walk in their own devices.
13 Oh that My people (BC)would listen to Me,
That Israel would (BD)walk in My ways!
14 I would quickly (BE)subdue their enemies
And I would (BF)turn My hand against their adversaries.
15 (BG)Those who hate Yahweh would (BH)cower before Him,
And their time of punishment would be forever.
16 [p]But I would feed you with the [q](BI)finest of the wheat,
And with (BJ)honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”

God Stands in Judgment

A Psalm of Asaph.

82 God takes His (BK)stand in the congregation of [r]God;
He (BL)judges in the midst of [s](BM)gods.
How long will you (BN)judge unrighteously
And (BO)show partiality to the wicked? [t]Selah.
(BP)Give justice to the poor and the orphan;
Justify the afflicted and destitute.
(BQ)Protect the poor and needy;
Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.

They (BR)do not know and do not understand;
They (BS)walk about in darkness;
All the (BT)foundations of the earth are shaken.
[u]I (BU)said, “You are gods,
And all of you are (BV)sons of the Most High.
Nevertheless (BW)you will die like men
And you will fall like any (BX)one of the princes.”
(BY)Arise, O God, (BZ)judge the earth!
For it is You who (CA)will inherit all the nations.

O God, Do Not Be Quiet

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.

83 O God, (CB)do not remain at rest;
(CC)Do not be silent and, O God, do not be quiet.
For behold, Your enemies (CD)roar,
And (CE)those who hate You have (CF)lifted up their heads.
They (CG)make shrewd plans against Your people,
And [v]conspire together against (CH)Your [w]treasured ones.
They have said, “Come, and (CI)let us wipe them out [x]as a nation,
That the (CJ)name of Israel be remembered no more.”
For they have [y](CK)conspired together with one heart;
Against You they cut a covenant:
The tents of (CL)Edom and the (CM)Ishmaelites,
(CN)Moab and the (CO)Hagrites;
(CP)Gebal and (CQ)Ammon and (CR)Amalek,
(CS)Philistia with the inhabitants of (CT)Tyre;
(CU)Assyria also has joined with them;
They have become [z]the power of the (CV)children of Lot. [aa]Selah.

Do to them (CW)as to Midian,
As (CX)to Sisera, and Jabin at the river of Kishon,
10 Who were destroyed at En-dor,
Who (CY)were as dung for the ground.
11 Make their nobles like (CZ)Oreb and Zeeb
And all their princes like (DA)Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 Who said, “(DB)Let us possess for ourselves
The (DC)pastures of God.”

13 O my God, make them like the [ab](DD)whirling dust,
Like (DE)chaff before the wind.
14 Like (DF)fire that burns the forest
And like a flame that (DG)burns up the mountains,
15 So pursue them (DH)with Your tempest
And dismay them with Your storm.
16 (DI)Fill their faces with disgrace,
That they may seek Your name, O Yahweh.
17 Let them be (DJ)ashamed and dismayed forever,
And let them be humiliated and perish,
18 That they may (DK)know that (DL)You alone—Your name is Yahweh—
Are the (DM)Most High over all the earth.
