A Christian’s Duties to the State

13 Let everyone submit to the governing authorities,^(A) since there is no authority except from God,^(B) and the authorities that exist are instituted by God.

⁸ More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value^(A) of knowing Christ^(B) Jesus my Lord. Because of him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them as dung, so that I may gain Christ^(C)

⁷ And the peace of God, which surpasses^(A) all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.^(B)

¹³ Submit^(A) to every human authority because of the Lord, whether to the emperor^[a] as the supreme authority^(B)
