Do Not Forsake Me, O Yahweh

A Psalm of David. To bring to remembrance.

38 O Yahweh, (A)reprove me not in Your wrath,
And discipline me not in Your burning anger.
For Your (B)arrows have pressed deep into me,
And (C)Your hand has pressed down upon me.
There is (D)no soundness in my flesh (E)because of Your indignation;
There is no health (F)in my bones because of my sin.
For my (G)iniquities go over my head;
As a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.
My [a]wounds stink and rot
Because of (H)my [b]folly.
I am bent over and (I)greatly bowed down;
I (J)go mourning all day long.
For my loins are filled with (K)burning,
And there is (L)no soundness in my flesh.
I am (M)faint and [c]badly crushed;
I [d](N)groan because of the [e]agitation of my heart.

Lord, all (O)my desire is [f]before You;
And my (P)sighing is not hidden from You.
10 My heart throbs, (Q)my strength forsakes me;
And the (R)light of my eyes, even [g]that [h]has gone from me.
11 My [i](S)loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague;
And my kinsmen (T)stand afar off.
12 Those who (U)search for my life (V)lay snares for me;
And those who (W)seek [j]to do me evil have [k]threatened destruction,
And they (X)meditate on deception all day long.

13 But I, like a deaf man, do not hear;
And I am like a (Y)mute man who does not open his mouth.
14 And I am like a man who does not hear,
And in whose mouth are no reproofs.
15 For (Z)I [l]wait on You, O Yahweh;
You (AA)will answer, O Lord my God.
16 For I said, “Save, lest they be glad over me,
Who, when my foot stumbles, (AB)magnify themselves against me.”
17 For I am (AC)ready to fall,
And (AD)my [m]sorrow is continually before me.
18 For I [n](AE)confess my iniquity;
I am full of (AF)anxiety because of my sin.
19 But my (AG)enemies are vigorous and [o]strong,
And those who wrongfully (AH)hate me abound.
20 And those who (AI)repay evil for good,
They (AJ)accuse me, for I pursue what is good.
21 Do not forsake me, O Yahweh;
O my God, (AK)do not be far from me!
22 Make (AL)haste to help me,
O Lord, (AM)my salvation!

Yahweh, Make Me Know My End

For the choir director. For [p]Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

39 I said, “I will (AN)keep watch over my ways
That I (AO)may not sin with my tongue;
I will keep watch over (AP)my mouth as with a muzzle
While the wicked are in my presence.”
I was (AQ)mute with silence,
I even kept silent from speaking good,
And my anguish grew worse.
My (AR)heart was hot within me,
While I meditated the fire was burning;
Then I spoke with my tongue:
“Yahweh, cause me to know (AS)my end
And what is the extent of my days;
Let me know how (AT)transient I am.
Behold, You have made (AU)my days as [q]handbreadths,
And my (AV)lifetime as nothing before You;
Surely every man, even standing firm, is [r]altogether (AW)vanity. [s]Selah.
Surely every man (AX)walks about as [t]a shadow;
Surely they make an (AY)uproar in vain;
He (AZ)piles up riches and does not know who will gather them.

“And now, Lord, what do I hope in?
My (BA)expectation is in You.
(BB)Deliver me from all my transgressions;
Make me not the (BC)reproach of the wicked fool.
I have become (BD)mute, I do not open my mouth,
Because it is (BE)You who have done it.
10 (BF)Remove Your plague from me;
Because of (BG)the opposition of Your hand I am wasting away.
11 With (BH)reproofs You chasten a man for iniquity;
You (BI)consume as a moth what is precious to him;
Surely (BJ)every man is vanity. Selah.

12 (BK)Hear my prayer, O Yahweh, and give ear to my cry for help;
Do not be silent (BL)at my tears;
For I am (BM)a sojourner with You,
A (BN)foreign resident like all my fathers.
13 (BO)Turn Your gaze away from me, that I may [u]smile again
Before I go and am no more.”

The One Who Rescues Me

For the choir director. Of David. A Psalm.

40 I (BP)hoped [v]earnestly for Yahweh;
And He inclined to me and (BQ)heard my cry for help.
He brought me up out of the (BR)pit of destruction, out of the [w]miry clay,
And (BS)He set my feet upon a high rock, (BT)He established my steps.
He put a (BU)new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
Many will (BV)see and fear
And will trust in Yahweh.

How (BW)blessed is the man who has made Yahweh his trust,
And (BX)has not [x]turned to the proud, nor to those who (BY)stray into falsehood.
Many, O Yahweh my God, are (BZ)the wondrous deeds You have done,
And Your (CA)thoughts toward us;
There is none to compare with You.
I would declare and speak of them,
But they (CB)are too numerous to recount.

[y](CC)Sacrifice and meal offering [z]You have not desired;
My ears You have [aa]opened;
Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required.
Then I said, “Behold, I come;
In the scroll of the book it is [ab]written of me.
(CD)I desire to do Your will, O my God;
(CE)Your law is within my inner being.”

I (CF)proclaim good news of righteousness in the great assembly;
Behold, I do (CG)not restrain my lips,
O Yahweh, (CH)You know.
10 I do (CI)not conceal Your righteousness within my heart;
I (CJ)speak of Your faithfulness and Your salvation;
I do not hide Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great assembly.

11 You, O Yahweh, will not withhold Your compassion from me;
[ac]Your (CK)lovingkindness and Your truth will continually guard me.
12 For evils beyond number have (CL)surrounded me;
My (CM)iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see;
They are (CN)more numerous than the hairs of my head,
And my (CO)heart has [ad]failed me.

13 (CP)Be pleased, O Yahweh, to deliver me;
Make (CQ)haste, O Yahweh, to help me.
14 Let those be (CR)ashamed and humiliated together
Who (CS)seek my [ae]life to sweep it away;
Let those be turned back and dishonored
Who delight in [af]evil against me.
15 Let those (CT)be [ag]appalled because of their shame
Who (CU)say to me, “Aha, aha!”
16 (CV)Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
Let those who love Your salvation (CW)say continually,
“Yahweh be magnified!”
17 As for me, (CX)I am afflicted and needy,
[ah](CY)May the Lord think of me.
You are my help and the One who rescues me;
Do not delay, O my God.

O Yahweh, Be Gracious to Me

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

41 How blessed is he who (CZ)considers the [ai]poor;
Yahweh will provide him escape (DA)in a day of [aj]calamity.
Yahweh will (DB)keep him and keep him alive,
And he shall be (DC)blessed upon the earth;
And (DD)do not give him over to the desire of his enemies.
Yahweh will sustain him upon his sickbed;
In his illness, You [ak]restore him to health.

As for me, I said, “O Yahweh, be gracious to me;
(DE)Heal my soul, for (DF)I have sinned against You.”
My enemies (DG)speak evil against me,
“When will he die, and his name perish?”
And [al]when he comes to see me, he (DH)speaks [am]worthlessness;
His heart gathers wickedness to itself;
When he goes outside, he speaks it.
All who hate me whisper together against me;
Against me, they (DI)devise for me [an]calamity, saying,
“A vile thing is poured out [ao]upon him,
That when he lies down, he will (DJ)not rise up again.”
Even my (DK)close friend in whom I trusted,
Who ate my bread,
Has lifted up his heel against me.

10 But You, O Yahweh, be gracious to me and (DL)raise me up,
That I may repay them.
11 By this I know that (DM)You delight in me,
Because (DN)my enemy makes no shout in triumph over me.
12 As for me, (DO)You uphold me in my integrity,
And You make me (DP)stand firm in Your presence forever.

13 (DQ)Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel,
From everlasting to everlasting.
Amen and Amen.
