Matthew 27:20-24

20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to (A)ask for Barabbas and to put Jesus to death. 21 But the governor answered and said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” 22 Pilate *said to them, “Then, what shall I do with Jesus (B)who is called [a]Christ?” They all *said, “Let Him be crucified!” 23 And he said, “Why, what evil did He do?” But they were crying out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”
24 Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that (C)a riot was starting, he took water and (D)washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of (E)this man’s blood; (F)see to that yourselves.”
