101 1 David describeth what government he will observe in his house and kingdom. 5 He will punish and correct, by rooting forth the wicked, 6 and cherishing the godly persons.

A Psalm of David.

I will [a]sing mercy and judgment: unto thee, O Lord, will I sing.

I will do wisely in the perfect way, [b]till thou comest to me, I will walk in the uprightness of mine heart in the midst of my house.

I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate [c]the work of them that fall away: it shall not cleave unto me.

A froward heart shall depart from me; I will know none evil.

Him that privily [d]slandereth his neighbor, will I destroy: him that hath a proud look and high heart, I cannot suffer.

Mine eyes shall be unto the [e]faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.

There shall no deceitful person dwell within my house: he that telleth lies, shall not remain in my sight.

[f]Betimes will I destroy all the wicked of the land that I may cut off all the workers of iniquity from the City of the Lord.

102 1 It seemeth that this prayer was appointeth to the faithful to pray in the captivity of Babylon. 16 A consolation for the building of the Church:   18 whereof followeth the praise of God to be published unto all posterity. 22 The conversion of the Gentiles, 28 and the stability of the Church.

A prayer [g]of the afflicted, when he shall be in distress, and pour forth his meditation before the Lord.

O Lord hear my prayer, and let my [h]cry come unto thee.

Hide not thy face from me in the time of my trouble: incline thine ears unto me, when I call, make haste to hear me.

For my days are [i]consumed like smoke, and my bones are burnt like an hearth.

Mine heart is smitten, and withered like grass, because I forgat [j]to eat my bread.

For the voice of my groaning, my bones do cleave to my skin.

I am like a [k]pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the deserts.

I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.

Mine enemies revile me daily, and they that rage against me, have [l]sworn against me.

Surely I have [m]eaten ashes as bread, and mingled my drink with weeping,

10 Because of thine [n]indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast heaved me up, and cast me down.

11 My days are like a shadow that fadeth, and I am withered like grass.

12 But thou, O Lord, dost [o]remain forever, and thy remembrance from generation to generation.

13 Thou wilt arise and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to have mercy thereon, for the [p]appointed time is come.

14 For thy servants delight in the [q]stones thereof, and have pity on the dust thereof.

15 Then the heathen shall fear the Name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory,

16 When the Lord shall build up Zion, and shall appear [r]in his glory,

17 And shall turn unto the prayer of the desolate, and not despise their prayer.

18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be [s]created, shall praise the Lord.

19 For he hath looked down from the height of his Sanctuary: out of the heaven did the Lord behold the earth,

20 That he might hear the mourning of the prisoner, and deliver the [t]children of death.

21 That they may declare the Name of the Lord in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem,

22 When the people shall be gathered [u]together, and the kingdoms to serve the Lord.

23 He [v]abated my strength in the way, and shortened my days.

24 And I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years endure from generation to generation.

25 Thou hast aforetime laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of thine hands.

26 [w]They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: even they all shall wax old as doth a garment: as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed.

27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

28 The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall stand [x]fast in thy sight.

103 1 He provoketh all to praise the Lord, which hath pardoned his sins, delivered him from destruction and given him sufficient of all good things. 10 Then he addeth the tender mercies of God, which he showeth like a most tender Father toward his children. 14 The frailty of man’s life. 20 An exhortation to man and Angels to praise the Lord.

A Psalm of David.

My soul, [y]praise thou the Lord, and all that is within me, praise his holy Name.

My soul, praise thou the Lord, and forget not all his benefits.

Which [z]forgiveth all thine iniquity, and healeth all thine infirmities.

Which redeemeth thy life from the [aa]grave; and crowneth thee with mercy and compassions.

Which satisfieth thy mouth with good things: and thy [ab]youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment to all that are oppressed.

He made his ways known unto [ac]Moses, and his works unto the children of Israel.

The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, slow to anger and of great kindness.

He will not always [ad]chide, neither keep his anger forever.

10 He hath not [ae]dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

11 For as high as the heaven is above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

12 As far as [af]the East is from the West: so far hath he removed our sins from us.

13 As a father hath compassion on his children, so hath the Lord compassion on them that fear him.

14 For he knoweth whereof we be made: he remembereth that we are but dust.

15 The days of [ag]man are as grass: as a flower of the field, so flourisheth he.

16 For the wind goeth over it, and it is gone, and the place thereof shall know it no more.

17 But the loving kindness of the Lord endureth forever and ever upon them that fear him, and his [ah]righteousness upon children’s children,

18 Unto them that keep his [ai]covenant, and think upon his commandments to do them.

19 The Lord hath prepared his throne in heaven, and his kingdom ruleth over all.

20 Praise the Lord, ye [aj]his Angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandment in obeying the voice of his word.

21 Praise the Lord all ye his hosts, ye his servants that do his pleasure.

22 Praise the Lord all ye his works, in all places of his dominion: my soul, praise thou the Lord.

104 1 An excellent Psalm to praise God for the creation of the world, and the governance of the same by his marvelous providence. 35 Wherein the Prophet prayeth against the wicked, who are occasions that God diminisheth his blessings.

My soul, praise thou the Lord: O Lord my God, thou art exceeding great, thou art [ak]clothed with glory and honor.

Which covereth himself with light, as with a garment, and spreadeth the heavens like a curtain.

Which layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters, and maketh the clouds his chariot, and walketh upon the wings of the wind.

Which [al]maketh the spirits his messengers, and a flaming fire his ministers.

He set the earth upon her foundations, so that it shall never move.

Thou coverest it with the [am]deep as with a garment: the [an]waters would stand above the mountains.

But at thy rebuke they flee: at the voice of thy thunder they haste away.

And the mountains ascend, and the valleys descend to the place which thou hast established for them.

But thou hast set them a bound which they shall not pass: they shall not return to cover the earth.

10 He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run between the mountains.

11 They shall give drink to all the [ao]beasts of the field, and the wild asses shall quench their thirst.

12 By these [ap]springs shall the fowls of the heaven dwell, and sing among the branches.

13 He watereth the mountains from his [aq]chambers, and the earth is filled with the fruit of thy works.

14 He causeth grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the use of [ar]man, that he may bring forth bread out of the earth,

15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread that strengtheneth man’s heart.

16 The high trees are satisfied, even the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted,

17 That the birds may make their nests there: the stork dwelleth in the fir trees.

18 The high mountains are for the [as]goats: the rocks are a refuge for the conies.

19 He appointed [at]the moon for certain seasons: [au]the sun knoweth his going down.

20 Thou makest darkness, and it is night, wherein all the beasts of the forest creep forth.

21 The lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat [av]at God.

22 When the sun riseth, they retire, and couch in their dens.

23 [aw]Then goeth man forth to his work, and to his labor until the evening.

24 O Lord, how [ax]manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.

25 So is the sea great and wide: for therein are things creeping innumerable, both small beasts and great.

26 There go the ships, yea that [ay]Leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.

27 [az]All these wait upon thee, that thou mayest give them food in due season.

28 Thou givest it to them, and they gather it, thou openest thy hand, and they are filled with good things.

29 But if thou [ba]hide thy face, they are troubled: if thou take away their breath, they die and return to their dust:

30 Again if thou [bb]send forth thy spirit, they are created, and thou renewest the face of the earth.

31 Glory be to the Lord forever: let the Lord rejoice in his works.

32 He looketh on the earth and it trembleth: he toucheth the mountains, and they [bc]smoke.

33 I will sing unto the Lord all my life: I will praise my God, while I live.

34 Let my words be acceptable unto him: I will rejoice in the Lord.

35 Let the sinners be [bd]consumed out of the earth, and the wicked till there be no more: O my soul, praise thou the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

105 1 He praiseth the singular grace of God, who hath of all the people of the world chosen a peculiar people to himself, and having chosen them, never ceaseth to do them good, even for his promise’s sake.

Praise the Lord, and call upon his Name: [be]declare his works among the people.

Sing unto him, sing praise unto him, and talk of all his wondrous works.

Rejoice in his holy Name, let the heart of them that seek the Lord, rejoice.

Seek the Lord and his [bf]strength: seek his face continually.

Remember his [bg]marvelous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the [bh]judgments of his mouth,

Ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob, which are his elect.

He is the Lord our God: his judgments are through all the earth.

He hath always remembered his covenant, and promise, that he made to a thousand generations,

Even that which he [bi]made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac:

10 And since hath confirmed it to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,

11 Saying, [bj]Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance.

12 Albeit they were few in number, yea very few, and strangers in the land,

13 And walked about from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people,

14 Yet suffered he no man to do them wrong, but reproved [bk]Kings for their sakes, saying,

15 Touch not mine [bl]anointed, and do my [bm]Prophets no harm.

16 Moreover, he called a famine upon the land, and utterly brake the [bn]staff of bread.

17 But he sent a man before them: Joseph was sold for a slave.

18 They held his feet in the stocks, and he was laid in irons,

19 Until [bo]his appointed time came, and the counsel of the Lord had tried him.

20 The King sent and loosed him: even the Ruler of the people delivered him.

21 He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance,

22 That he should bind his [bp]princes unto his will, and teach his Ancients wisdom.

23 Then Israel came to Egypt, and Jacob was a stranger in the land of Ham.

24 And he increased his people exceedingly, and made them stronger than their oppressors.

25 [bq]He turned their heart to hate his people, and to deal craftily with his servants.

26 Then sent he Moses his servant, and Aaron whom he had chosen.

27 They showed among them the message of his signs, and wonders in the land of Ham.

28 He sent darkness, and made it dark: and they were not [br]disobedient unto his commission.

29 (A)He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish.

30 (B)Their land brought forth frogs, even in their King’s chambers.

31 He [bs]spake, and there came swarms of flies and lice in all their quarters.

32 He gave them [bt]hail for rain, and flames of fire in their land.

33 He smote their vines also and their fig trees, and brake down the trees in their coasts.

34 [bu]He spake and the grasshoppers came, and caterpillars innumerable,

35 And did eat up all the grass in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground.

36 (C)He smote also all the firstborn in their land, even the beginning of all their strength.

37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold, and there was [bv]none feeble among their tribes.

38 Egypt was [bw]glad at their departing: for the fear of them had fallen upon them.

39 He spread a cloud to be a covering, and fire to give light in the night.

40 They [bx]asked, and he brought quails, and he filled them with the bread of heaven.

41 He opened the rock, and the water flowed out, and ran in the dry places like a river.

42 For he remembered his holy [by]promise to Abraham his servant,

43 And he brought forth his people with [bz]joy, and his chosen with gladness,

44 And gave them the lands of the heathen, and they took the labors of the people in possession,

45 That they might [ca]keep his statutes, and observe his Laws. Praise ye the Lord.
