⁹ The one who says he is in the light but hates his brother or sister^(A) is in the darkness until now.

¹¹ But the one who hates his brother or sister^(A) is in the darkness, walks in the darkness,^(B) and doesn’t know where he’s going,^(C) because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

²⁰ If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ and yet hates his brother or sister,^(A) he is a liar.^(B) For the person who does not love his brother or sister^(C) whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.^[a]
