¹¹ Then the Lord said to Solomon, ‘Since you have done this^[a] and did not keep my covenant and my statutes, which I commanded you, I will tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.^(A)

¹⁵ They rejected his statutes and his covenant he had made with their ancestors^(A) and the warnings he had given them. They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves,^(B) following the surrounding nations the Lord had commanded them not to imitate.^(C)

²³ They entered and possessed it, but they did not obey you or live according to your instructions.^(A) They failed to perform all you commanded them to do,^(B) and so you have brought all this disaster on them.
