²¹ Then Elijah approached all the people and said, ‘How long will you waver between two opinions?^[a](A) If the Lord is God, follow him. But if Baal, follow him.’^(B) But the people didn’t answer him a word.

² they approached Zerubbabel and the family heads and said to them, ‘Let us build with you, for we also worship your God and have been sacrificing to him^[a] since the time King Esar-haddon of Assyria brought us here.’^(A)

²⁴ ‘No one can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.^(A)
