⁵² The men of Israel and Judah rallied, shouting their battle cry, and chased the Philistines to the entrance of the valley and to the gates of Ekron.^[a](A) Philistine bodies were strewn all along the Shaaraim road^(B) to Gath and Ekron.

¹⁷ Then Abijah and his people struck them with a mighty blow, and five hundred thousand fit young men of Israel were killed.

⁴ Your altars will be desolated and your shrines^[a] smashed. I will throw down your slain in front of your idols.

⁷ The slain will fall among you, and you will know that I am the Lord.

²⁶ Those who eat his provisions^(A) will destroy him; his army will be swept away, and many will fall slain.
