³⁰ “Therefore, this is the declaration of the Lord, the God of Israel: ‘I did say that your family and your forefather’s family would walk before me forever.^(A) But now,’ this is the Lord’s declaration, ‘no longer! For those who honor me I will honor,^(B) but those who despise me will be disgraced.^(C)

²³ Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of the heavens. The vessels from his house were brought to you, and as you and your nobles, wives, and concubines drank wine from them,^(A) you praised the gods made of silver and gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or understand.^(B) But you have not glorified the God who holds your life-breath in his hand and who controls the whole course of your life.^[a](C)

⁸ Go up into the hills, bring down lumber, and build the house; and I will be pleased with it and be glorified,” says the Lord.
