⁶ The Lord brings death and gives life;^(A)
he sends some down to Sheol, and he raises others up.^(B)
7 The Lord brings poverty and gives wealth;^(C)
he humbles and he exalts.^(D)
8 He raises the poor from the dust^(E)
and lifts the needy from the rubbish heap.^(F)
He seats them with noblemen^(G)
and gives them a throne of honour.^[a]
For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s;^(H)
he has set the world on them.^(I)
