7 So the people of Kiriath-jearim came for the ark of the Lord and took it to Abinadab’s house on the hill.^(A) They consecrated his son Eleazar to take care of it.

Victory at Mizpah

² Time went by until twenty years had passed since the ark had been taken to Kiriath-jearim. Then the whole house of Israel longed for the Lord.

¹⁴ but he did not enquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.^(A)

¹³ For the Lord our God burst out in anger against us because you Levites were not with us the first time, for we didn’t enquire of him about the proper procedures.’^(A)
