Nowe Przymierze
6 Wszyscy, którzy służą pod jarzmem jako niewolnicy, niech uważają swoich panów za godnych najwyższego szacunku. Chodzi o to, aby nie znieważano imienia Boga ani nauczanych przez nas zasad. 2 Ci zaś, którzy mają wierzących panów, niech ich nie lekceważą dlatego, że są braćmi, lecz niech im tym bardziej służą, bo przecież ci, którzy z tej dobrej służby korzystają, są ludźmi wierzącymi i ukochanymi.
Fałszywa nauka i prawdziwy zysk
Tego nauczaj i do tego zachęcaj. 3 Kto natomiast uczy inaczej i nie przyjmuje zdrowych rad naszego Pana, Jezusa Chrystusa, ani nauk zgodnych z pobożnością, 4 ten jest nadęty, niczego nie rozumie, choruje na wszczynanie sporów oraz walk o słowa. Rodzi się z tego zawiść, kłótnia, bluźnierstwa, złośliwe podejrzenia, 5 ciągłe ścieranie się ludzi spaczonych na umyśle i wyzutych z prawdy, sądzących, że z pobożności można ciągnąć zyski.
6 Pobożność jest prawdziwym zyskiem, jeżeli łączy się z umiarem. 7 Bo nic na świat nie przynieśliśmy i nic nie dadzą na rozstanie. 8 Jeśli więc mamy strawę i odzienie, przyjmijmy to
z zadowoleniem.
9 Ci bowiem, którzy chcą być bogaci, wystawiają się na pokusy i zasadzki, mogą paść ofiarą bezsensownych i szkodliwych pragnień, które pogrążają ludzi w zgubę i zatracenie. 10 Korzeniem wszelkiego zła jest miłość pieniędzy. Niektórzy jej ulegli, odeszli od wiary i przysporzyli sobie wielu zgryzot.

11 Ty natomiast, Boży człowieku, od tego wszystkiego uciekaj! Zabiegaj o sprawiedliwość, pobożność, wiarę i miłość, łagodność i cierpliwość. 12 Staczaj dobry bój wiary. Uchwyć się życia wiecznego; do niego masz powołanie, a potwierdziłeś to pięknym wyznaniem wobec wielu świadków. 13 Nakazuję ci w obliczu Boga, który wszystko ożywia, i w obliczu Chrystusa Jezusa, który przed Poncjuszem Piłatem złożył wspaniałe wyznanie, 14 abyś zachował przykazanie bez skazy i zarzutu, aż do przyjścia naszego Pana, Jezusa Chrystusa, 15 które we właściwym czasie objawi Cudowny, jedyny Władca, Król królów i Pan panów, 16 Jedyny nieśmiertelny, żyjący w świetle niedostępnym, Ten, którego nikt z ludzi nie widział i zobaczyć nie jest w stanie. Jemu niech będzie cześć i potęga — na wieki.
Amen.
17 Bogatym obecnego wieku nakazuj, aby się nie wynosili i nie pokładali nadziei w niepewnym bogactwie, lecz w Bogu, który nas obficie zaopatruje we wszystko, co przynosi radość. 18 Niech czynią dobro, bogacą się w szlachetne czyny, będą hojni i gotowi do dzielenia się. 19 Niech odkładają sobie skarb jako dobry fundament na przyszłość, aby się w ten sposób uchwycić prawdziwego życia.
20 Tymoteuszu! Strzeż tego, co ci powierzono, unikaj pospolitej, pustej mowy oraz sprzecznych twierdzeń rzekomej nauki, 21 którą niektórzy przyjęli i odeszli od wiary.

Duties of Servants and Masters
6 All who are under the yoke of slavery should regard their own masters as deserving of the highest respect,[a] so that the name of God and our teaching may not be discredited.[b] 2 Moreover, those who have believing masters should be respectful to them, because they are fellow believers.[c] In fact, they must serve them even better, because those who benefit from their service are believers and dear to them. These are the things you must teach and exhort.
Rules for Godly Living
3 If anyone teaches false doctrine and refuses to agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah,[d] and godly teaching, 4 he is a conceited person and does not understand anything. He has an unhealthy craving for arguments and debates. This produces jealousy, rivalry, slander, evil suspicions, 5 and incessant conflict between people who are depraved in mind and deprived of truth. They think that godliness is a way to make a profit.[e] 6 Of course, godliness with contentment does bring a great profit.
7 Nothing to this world we bring;
from it take we nothing.
8 With food to eat and clothes to wear;
content we are in everything.
9 But people who want to get rich keep toppling into temptation and are trapped by many stupid and harmful desires that plunge them into destruction and ruin. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, in their eagerness to get rich, have wandered away from the faith and caused[f] themselves a lot of pain.
Advice for Timothy
11 But you, man of God, must flee from all these things.
Instead, you must pursue righteousness, godliness, faithfulness,[g]
love, endurance, and gentleness.
12 Fight the good fight for the faith.
Keep holding on to eternal life, to which you were called
and about which you gave a good testimony
in front of many witnesses.
13 Since you are[h] in the presence of God, who gives life to everything, and in the presence of the Messiah[i] Jesus, who gave a good testimony before Pontius Pilate, I solemnly charge you 14 to keep these commands stainlessly and blamelessly until the appearance of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah.[j] 15 At the right time, he will make him known.
God[k] is the blessed and only Ruler,
the King of kings
and Lord of lords.
16 He alone has endless life
and lives in inaccessible light.
No one has ever seen him,
nor can anyone see him.
Honor and eternal power belong to him!
Amen.
Advice for the Wealthy
17 Tell those who are rich in this age not to be arrogant and not to place their confidence in anything as uncertain as riches. Instead, let them place their confidence[l] in God, who lavishly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good actions, to be generous, and to share. 19 By doing this they store up a treasure for themselves that is a good foundation for the future, so that they can keep their hold on the life that is real.
Final Greeting
20 Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid the pointless discussions and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge. 21 Although some claim to have it, they have abandoned the faith. May grace be with all of you!

6 All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect,(A) so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered.(B) 2 Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers.(C) Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare[a] of their slaves.
False Teachers and the Love of Money
These are the things you are to teach and insist on.(D) 3 If anyone teaches otherwise(E) and does not agree to the sound instruction(F) of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4 they are conceited(G) and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words(H) that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5 and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth(I) and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
6 But godliness with contentment(J) is great gain.(K) 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.(L) 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.(M) 9 Those who want to get rich(N) fall into temptation and a trap(O) and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money(P) is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith(Q) and pierced themselves with many griefs.(R)
Final Charge to Timothy
11 But you, man of God,(S) flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness,(T) faith, love,(U) endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight(V) of the faith. Take hold of(W) the eternal life(X) to which you were called when you made your good confession(Y) in the presence of many witnesses. 13 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate(Z) made the good confession,(AA) I charge you(AB) 14 to keep this command without spot or blame(AC) until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,(AD) 15 which God will bring about in his own time(AE)—God, the blessed(AF) and only Ruler,(AG) the King of kings and Lord of lords,(AH) 16 who alone is immortal(AI) and who lives in unapproachable light,(AJ) whom no one has seen or can see.(AK) To him be honor and might forever. 17 Command those who are rich(AM) in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth,(AN) which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God,(AO) who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.(AP) 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds,(AQ) and to be generous and willing to share.(AR) 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves(AS) as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of(AT) the life that is truly life.
20 Timothy, guard what has been entrusted(AU) to your care. Turn away from godless chatter(AV) and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, 21 which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith.(AW)

20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
