1 Pablo, llamado a ser apóstol de Jesucristo por la voluntad de Dios, y el hermano Sóstenes,
2 a la iglesia de Dios que está en Corinto, a los santificados en Cristo Jesús, llamados a ser santos con todos los que en cualquier lugar invocan el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Señor de ellos y nuestro:
3 Gracia y paz a vosotros, de parte de Dios nuestro Padre y del Señor Jesucristo.
Acción de gracias por dones espirituales
4 Doy gracias a mi Dios continuamente por vosotros, por la gracia de Dios que os fue dada en Cristo Jesús;
5 porque en todas las cosas fuisteis enriquecidos en él, en toda palabra y en todo conocimiento;
6 en la medida en que el testimonio acerca de Cristo ha sido consolidado en vosotros,
7 de tal manera que nada os falta en ningún don a los que esperáis anhelantes la revelación de nuestro Señor Jesucristo;
8 el cual también os afianzará hasta el fin, para que seáis irreprensibles en el día de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
9 Fiel es Dios, por el cual fuisteis llamados a la comunión con su Hijo Jesucristo nuestro Señor.
Exhortación a la unidad
10 Os exhorto, hermanos, por el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, a que habléis todos una misma cosa, y que no haya entre vosotros divisiones, sino que estéis perfectamente unidos en una misma mente y en un mismo parecer.
11 Porque he sido informado acerca de vosotros, hermanos míos, por los de Cloé, que hay entre vosotros contiendas.
12 Me refiero a que cada uno de vosotros dice: Yo soy de Pablo; y yo de Apolos; y yo de Cefas; y yo de Cristo.
13 ¿Acaso está dividido Cristo? ¿Fue crucificado Pablo por vosotros? ¿O fuisteis bautizados en el nombre de Pablo?
14 Doy gracias a Dios de que a ninguno de vosotros he bautizado, sino a Crispo y a Gayo,
15 para que nadie diga que fuisteis bautizados en mi nombre.
16 También bauticé a la familia de Estéfanas; por lo demás, no sé si he bautizado a algún otro.
17 Pues no me envió Cristo a bautizar, sino a predicar el evangelio; no con sabiduría de palabras, para que no se desvirtúe la cruz de Cristo.
Cristo, poder y sabiduría de Dios
18 Porque el mensaje de la cruz es locura para los que se están perdiendo; pero para nosotros que somos salvos, es poder de Dios.
19 Pues está escrito:
Destruiré la sabiduría de los sabios,
Y desecharé el entendimiento de los entendidos.
20 ¿Dónde está el sabio? ¿Dónde está el letrado? ¿Dónde está el discutidor de este mundo? ¿No ha convertido Dios la sabiduría del mundo en necedad?
21 Pues ya que en la sabiduría de Dios, el mundo no conoció a Dios mediante la sabiduría, agradó a Dios salvar a los creyentes mediante la locura de la predicación.
22 Puesto que los judíos piden señales, y los griegos buscan sabiduría;
23 pero nosotros predicamos a Cristo crucificado, para los judíos ciertamente tropezadero, y para los gentiles locura;
24 mas para aquellos que son llamados, así judíos como griegos, Cristo es poder de Dios, y sabiduría de Dios.
25 Porque lo insensato de Dios es más sabio que los hombres, y lo débil de Dios es más fuerte que los hombres.
26 Pues mirad, hermanos, vuestro llamamiento, que no sois muchos sabios según la carne, ni muchos poderosos, ni muchos nobles;
27 sino que escogió Dios lo necio del mundo, para avergonzar a los sabios; y escogió Dios lo débil del mundo, para avergonzar a lo fuerte;
28 y lo vil del mundo y lo menospreciado escogió Dios, y lo que no es, para anular lo que es,
29 a fin de que nadie se jacte en su presencia.
30 Mas por obra suya estáis vosotros en Cristo Jesús, el cual nos ha sido hecho de parte de Dios sabiduría, justificación, santificación y redención;
31 para que, tal como está escrito: El que se gloría, gloríese en el Señor.
Predicando a Cristo crucificado
2 Y yo, hermanos, cuando fui a vosotros, no fui anunciándoos el testimonio de Dios con excelencia de palabras o de sabiduría.
2 Pues resolví no saber entre vosotros cosa alguna sino a Jesucristo, y a éste crucificado.
3 Y yo me presenté ante vosotros con debilidad, y con temor y mucho temblor;
4 y ni mi palabra ni mi predicación fue con palabras persuasivas de humana sabiduría, sino con demostración del Espíritu y de poder,
5 para que vuestra fe no esté fundada en la sabiduría de los hombres, sino en el poder de Dios.
La revelación por el Espíritu de Dios
6 Sin embargo, hablamos sabiduría entre los que han alcanzado madurez; y sabiduría, no de este mundo, ni de los príncipes de este mundo, que van desapareciendo,
7 sino que hablamos sabiduría de Dios en misterio, la sabiduría oculta, la cual Dios predestinó antes de los siglos para nuestra gloria,
8 la que ninguno de los príncipes de este mundo conoció; porque si la hubieran conocido, no habrían crucificado al Señor de la gloria.
9 Antes bien, como está escrito:
Cosas que el ojo no vio, ni el oído oyó,
Ni han subido al corazón del hombre,
Son las que Dios ha preparado para los que le aman.
10 Pero Dios nos las reveló a nosotros por medio del Espíritu; porque el Espíritu todo lo escudriña, aun las profundidades de Dios.
11 Porque ¿quién de los hombres sabe las cosas del hombre, sino el espíritu del hombre que está en él? Así tampoco nadie conoce las cosas de Dios, sino el Espíritu de Dios.
12 Y nosotros no hemos recibido el espíritu del mundo, sino el Espíritu que proviene de Dios, para que sepamos lo que Dios nos ha otorgado gratuitamente,
13 lo cual también hablamos, no con palabras enseñadas por sabiduría humana, sino con las que enseña el Espíritu, acomodando lo espiritual a lo espiritual.
14 Pero el hombre natural no capta las cosas que son del Espíritu de Dios, porque para él son locura, y no las puede conocer, porque se han de discernir espiritualmente.
15 En cambio el espiritual discierne todas las cosas; pero él no es enjuiciado por nadie.
16 Porque ¿quién conoció la mente del Señor, para que pueda instruirle? Mas nosotros tenemos la mente de Cristo.
Colaboradores de Dios
3 Y yo, hermanos, no pude hablaros como a espirituales, sino como a carnales, como a niños en Cristo.
2 Os di a beber leche, y no alimento sólido; porque aún no erais capaces, ni sois capaces todavía,
3 porque aún sois carnales; pues habiendo entre vosotros celos, contiendas y disensiones, ¿no sois carnales, y andáis según el modo humano?
4 Porque diciendo el uno: Yo ciertamente soy de Pablo; y el otro: Yo soy de Apolos, ¿no sois carnales?
5 ¿Qué, pues, es Pablo, y qué es Apolos? Servidores por medio de los cuales habéis creído; y eso según lo que a cada uno concedió el Señor.
6 Yo planté, Apolos regó; pero el crecimiento lo ha dado Dios;
7 de modo que ni el que planta es algo, ni el que riega, sino Dios, que da el crecimiento.
8 Y el que planta y el que riega son una misma cosa; aunque cada uno recibirá su propia recompensa conforme a su propia labor.
9 Porque nosotros somos colaboradores de Dios, y vosotros sois labranza de Dios, edificio de Dios.
10 Conforme a la gracia de Dios que me ha sido dada, yo como perito arquitecto puse el fundamento, y otro edifica encima; pero cada uno mire cómo sobreedifica.
11 Porque nadie puede poner otro fundamento que el que está puesto, el cual es Jesucristo.
12 Y si alguien edifica sobre este fundamento oro, plata, piedras preciosas, madera, heno, paja,
13 la obra de cada uno se hará manifiesta; porque el día la declarará, pues por el fuego será revelada; y el fuego mismo probará la calidad de la obra de cada uno.
14 Si permanece la obra de alguno que sobreedificó, recibirá recompensa.
15 Si la obra de alguno se quema, él sufrirá pérdida, si bien él mismo será salvo, aunque así como a través del fuego.
16 ¿No sabéis que sois santuario de Dios, y que el Espíritu de Dios mora en vosotros?
17 Si alguno destruye el santuario de Dios, Dios le destruirá a él; porque el santuario de Dios, el cual sois vosotros, es sagrado.
18 Nadie se engañe a sí mismo; si alguno entre vosotros se cree sabio según este mundo, hágase ignorante para que llegue a ser sabio.
19 Porque la sabiduría de este mundo es insensatez para con Dios; pues escrito está: Él atrapa a los sabios en la astucia de ellos.
20 Y otra vez: El Señor conoce los razonamientos de los sabios, que son vanos.
21 Así que, ninguno se jacte en los hombres; porque todo es vuestro:
22 sea Pablo, sea Apolos, sea Cefas, sea el mundo, sea la vida, sea la muerte, sea lo presente, sea lo por venir, todo es vuestro,
23 y vosotros de Cristo, y Cristo de Dios.
El ministerio apostólico
4 Que todo hombre nos considere como servidores de Cristo, y administradores de los misterios de Dios.
2 Ahora bien, se requiere de los administradores, que cada uno sea hallado fiel.
3 Yo en muy poco tengo el ser enjuiciado por vosotros, o por tribunal humano; y ni aun yo me juzgo a mí mismo.
4 Porque aunque de nada tengo mala conciencia, no por eso quedo absuelto; pues el que me enjuicia es el Señor.
5 Así que, no juzguéis nada antes de tiempo, hasta que venga el Señor, el cual sacará a la luz también lo oculto de las tinieblas, y manifestará las intenciones de los corazones; y entonces cada uno recibirá su alabanza de parte de Dios.
6 Pero esto, hermanos, lo he presentado como ejemplo en mí y en Apolos por amor de vosotros, a fin de que de nosotros aprendáis lo de no propasarse de lo que está escrito, para que ni uno solo de vosotros se apasione el uno en contra del otro.
7 Porque ¿quién te distingue?, ¿o qué tienes que no hayas recibido? Y si lo recibiste, ¿por qué te glorías como si no lo hubieras recibido?
8 Ya estáis saciados, ya estáis ricos, sin nosotros reináis. ¡Y ojalá reinaseis, para que nosotros reinásemos también juntamente con vosotros!
9 Porque según pienso, Dios nos ha asignado a nosotros los apóstoles los últimos lugares, como a sentenciados a muerte; pues hemos llegado a ser espectáculo al mundo, a los ángeles y a los hombres.
10 Nosotros somos insensatos por amor de Cristo, mas vosotros prudentes en Cristo; nosotros débiles, mas vosotros fuertes; vosotros honorables, mas nosotros despreciados.
11 Hasta el momento presente padecemos hambre, tenemos sed, andamos mal vestidos, somos abofeteados, y no tenemos morada fija.
12 Nos fatigamos trabajando con nuestras propias manos; nos maldicen, y bendecimos; padecemos persecución, y la soportamos.
13 Nos difaman, y exhortamos; hemos venido a ser hasta ahora como la escoria del mundo, el desecho de todos.
14 No escribo esto para avergonzaros, sino para amonestaros como a hijos míos amados.
15 Porque aunque tengáis diez mil ayos en Cristo, no tenéis muchos padres; pues en Cristo Jesús yo os engendré por medio del evangelio.
16 Por tanto, os exhorto a que me imitéis.
17 Por esto mismo os he enviado a Timoteo, que es mi hijo amado y fiel en el Señor, el cual os recordará mi proceder en Cristo, de la manera que enseño en todas partes y en todas las iglesias.
18 Mas algunos están envanecidos, como si yo nunca hubiese de ir a vosotros.
19 Pero iré pronto a vosotros, si el Señor quiere, y conoceré, no las palabras, sino el poder de los que andan envanecidos.
20 Porque el reino de Dios no consiste en palabras, sino en poder.
21 ¿Qué queréis? ¿Iré a vosotros con vara, o con amor y espíritu de mansedumbre?

2 To the church of God(D) in Corinth,(E) to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called(F) to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name(G) of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:
3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.(H)
Thanksgiving
4 I always thank my God for you(I) because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. 5 For in him you have been enriched(J) in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge(K)— 6 God thus confirming our testimony(L) about Christ among you. 7 Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift(M) as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.(N) 8 He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless(O) on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.(P) 9 God is faithful,(Q) who has called you(R) into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.(S)
A Church Divided Over Leaders
10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,[a](T) in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you,(U) but that you be perfectly united(V) in mind and thought. 11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household(W) have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”;(X) another, “I follow Apollos”;(Y) another, “I follow Cephas[b]”;(Z) still another, “I follow Christ.”
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?(AA) 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus(AB) and Gaius,(AC) 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household(AD) of Stephanas;(AE) beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize,(AF) but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom(AG) and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness(AH) to those who are perishing,(AI) but to us who are being saved(AJ) it is the power of God.(AK) 19 For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[c](AL)
20 Where is the wise person?(AM) Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age?(AN) Has not God made foolish(AO) the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world(AP) through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save(AQ) those who believe.(AR) 22 Jews demand signs(AS) and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified:(AT) a stumbling block(AU) to Jews and foolishness(AV) to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called,(AW) both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God(AX) and the wisdom of God.(AY) 25 For the foolishness(AZ) of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness(BA) of God is stronger than human strength.
26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called.(BB) Not many of you were wise(BC) by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose(BD) the foolish(BE) things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not(BF)—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him.(BG) 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus,(BH) who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness,(BI) holiness(BJ) and redemption.(BK) 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”[d](BL)
2 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom(BM) as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.[e] 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.(BN) 3 I came to you(BO) in weakness(BP) with great fear and trembling.(BQ) 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words,(BR) but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,(BS) 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.(BT)
God’s Wisdom Revealed by the Spirit
6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature,(BU) but not the wisdom of this age(BV) or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.(BW) 7 No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery(BX) that has been hidden(BY) and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age(BZ) understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.(CA) 9 However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”[f]—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—(CB)
10 these are the things God has revealed(CC) to us by his Spirit.(CD)
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts(CE) except their own spirit(CF) within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit(CG) of the world,(CH) but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom(CI) but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.[g] 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God(CJ) but considers them foolishness,(CK) and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit(CL) makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for,
But we have the mind of Christ.(CN)
The Church and Its Leaders
3 Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit(CO) but as people who are still worldly(CP)—mere infants(CQ) in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid food,(CR) for you were not yet ready for it.(CS) Indeed, you are still not ready. 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling(CT) among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? 4 For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,”(CU) are you not mere human beings?
5 What, after all, is Apollos?(CV) And what is Paul? Only servants,(CW) through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. 6 I planted the seed,(CX) Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. 7 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.(CY) 9 For we are co-workers in God’s service;(CZ) you are God’s field,(DA) God’s building.(DB)
10 By the grace God has given me,(DC) I laid a foundation(DD) as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.(DE) 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is,(DF) because the Day(DG) will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.(DH) 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.(DI) 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.(DJ)
16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple(DK) and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?(DL) 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.
18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise(DM) by the standards of this age,(DN) you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness(DO) in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”[i];(DP) 20 and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”[j](DQ) 21 So then, no more boasting about human leaders!(DR) All things are yours,(DS) 22 whether Paul or Apollos(DT) or Cephas[k](DU) or the world or life or death or the present or the future(DV)—all are yours, 23 and you are of Christ,(DW) and Christ is of God.
The Nature of True Apostleship
4 This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants(DX) of Christ and as those entrusted(DY) with the mysteries(DZ) God has revealed. 2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. 3 I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. 4 My conscience(EA) is clear, but that does not make me innocent.(EB) It is the Lord who judges me.(EC) 5 Therefore judge nothing(ED) before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes.(EE) He will bring to light(EF) what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.(EG)
6 Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, “Do not go beyond what is written.”(EH) Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other.(EI) 7 For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive?(EJ) And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?
8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich!(EK) You have begun to reign—and that without us! How I wish that you really had begun to reign so that we also might reign with you! 9 For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like those condemned to die(EL) in the arena. We have been made a spectacle(EM) to the whole universe, to angels as well as to human beings. 10 We are fools for Christ,(EN) but you are so wise in Christ!(EO) We are weak, but you are strong!(EP) You are honored, we are dishonored! 11 To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless.(EQ) 12 We work hard with our own hands.(ER) When we are cursed, we bless;(ES) when we are persecuted,(ET) we endure it; 13 when we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage(EU) of the world—right up to this moment.
Paul’s Appeal and Warning
14 I am writing this not to shame you(EV) but to warn you as my dear children.(EW) 15 Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father(EX) through the gospel.(EY) 16 Therefore I urge you to imitate me.(EZ) 17 For this reason I have sent to you(FA) Timothy,(FB) my son(FC) whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.(FD)
18 Some of you have become arrogant,(FE) as if I were not coming to you.(FF) 19 But I will come to you very soon,(FG) if the Lord is willing,(FH) and then I will find out not only how these arrogant people are talking, but what power they have. 20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of(FI) talk but of power.(FJ) 21 What do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a rod of discipline,(FK) or shall I come in love and with a gentle spirit?
