²the king said to the prophet Nathan,^(A) ‘Look, I am living in a cedar house while the ark of God sits inside tent curtains.’^(B)

³So Nathan told the king, ‘Go and do all that is on your mind, for the Lord is with you.’

⁴But that night the word of the Lord came to Nathan:

²he said to Nathan^(A) the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house^(B) of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.”^(C)

³Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind,^(D) go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you.”

⁴But that night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying:
