23 ¹ Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, ‘Brothers, I have lived my life before God in all good conscience^(A) to this day.’

² Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful things, not acting^(A) deceitfully or distorting the word of God,^(B) but commending ourselves before God to everyone’s conscience by an open display of the truth.^(C)

¹² We are not commending ourselves to you again, but giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, so that you may have a reply for those who take pride in outward appearance rather than in the heart.

¹⁰ You are witnesses,^(A) and so is God, of how devoutly, righteously,^(B) and blamelessly^(C) we conducted ourselves with you believers.
