⁵ You are to respond by saying in the presence of the Lord your God:

My father was a wandering Aramean.^(A) He went down to Egypt with a few people and resided there as a foreigner.^(B) There he became a great, powerful, and populous nation.

⁴ and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau.^(A) I gave the hill country of Seir to Esau as a possession.^(B)

‘ “Jacob and his sons, however, went down to Egypt.^(C)
