² in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world,^(A) according to the ruler of the power of the air,^(B) the spirit^(C) now working in the disobedient.^{[a] 3} We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly^(D) desires, carrying out the inclinations^(E) of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath^(F) as the others were also.

²² to take off^[a](A) your former way of life,^(B) the old self^(C) that is corrupted by deceitful desires,

⁸ For you were once darkness, but now you are light^(A) in the Lord. Walk as children of light^(B) – 

³ For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions^(A) and pleasures,^(B) living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another.
