The Song of Moses^(A)

15 Then ^(B)Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying:

“I will ^(C)sing to the Lord,
For He has triumphed gloriously!
The horse and its rider
He has thrown into the sea!
²The Lord is my strength and ^(D)song,
And He has become my salvation;
He is my God, and ^(E)I will praise Him;
My ^(F)father’s God, and I ^(G)will exalt Him.
³The Lord is a man of ^(H)war;
The Lord is His ^(I)name.
⁴^(J)Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea;
^(K)His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea.
⁵The depths have covered them;
^(L)They sank to the bottom like a stone.

⁶“Your ^(M)right hand, O Lord, has become glorious in power;
Your right hand, O Lord, has dashed the enemy in pieces.
⁷And in the greatness of Your ^(N)excellence
You have overthrown those who rose against You;
You sent forth ^(O)Your wrath;
It ^(P)consumed them ^(Q)like stubble.
⁸And ^(R)with the blast of Your nostrils
The waters were gathered together;
^(S)The floods stood upright like a heap;
The depths ^[a]congealed in the heart of the sea.
⁹^(T)The enemy said, ‘I will pursue,
I will overtake,
I will ^(U)divide the spoil;
My desire shall be satisfied on them.
I will draw my sword,
My hand shall destroy them.’
¹⁰You blew with Your wind,
The sea covered them;
They sank like lead in the mighty waters.

¹¹“Who^(V) is like You, O Lord, among the ^[b]gods?
Who is like You, ^(W)glorious in holiness,
Fearful in ^(X)praises, ^(Y)doing wonders?
¹²You stretched out Your right hand;
The earth swallowed them.
¹³You in Your mercy have ^(Z)led forth
The people whom You have redeemed;
You have guided them in Your strength
To ^(AA)Your holy habitation.

¹⁴“The ^(AB)people will hear and be afraid;
^(AC)Sorrow^[c] will take hold of the inhabitants of Philistia.
¹⁵^(AD)Then ^(AE)the chiefs of Edom will be dismayed;
^(AF)The mighty men of Moab,
Trembling will take hold of them;
^(AG)All the inhabitants of Canaan will ^(AH)melt away.
¹⁶^(AI)Fear and dread will fall on them;
By the greatness of Your arm
They will be ^(AJ)as still as a stone,
Till Your people pass over, O Lord,
Till the people pass over
^(AK)Whom You have purchased.
¹⁷You will bring them in and ^(AL)plant them
In the ^(AM)mountain of Your inheritance,
In the place, O Lord, which You have made
For Your own dwelling,

¹⁸“The^(AO) Lord shall reign forever and ever.”

¹⁹For the ^(AP)horses of Pharaoh went with his chariots and his horsemen into the sea, and ^(AQ)the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them. But the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.

²⁰Then Miriam ^(AS)the prophetess, ^(AT)the sister of Aaron, ^(AU)took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her ^(AV)with timbrels and with dances. ²¹And Miriam ^(AW)answered them:

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David ^(B)the servant of the Lord, who spoke to the Lord the words of ^(C)this song on the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said:

18 I ^(D)will love You, O Lord, my strength.
²The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my ^[a]strength, ^(E)in whom I will trust;
My shield and the ^[b]horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
³I will call upon the Lord, ^(F)who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.

⁴^(G)The pangs of death surrounded me,
And the floods of ^[c]ungodliness made me afraid.
⁵The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.
⁶In my distress I called upon the Lord,
And cried out to my God;
He heard my voice from His temple,
And my cry came before Him, even to His ears.

⁷^(H)Then the earth shook and trembled;
The foundations of the hills also quaked and were shaken,
Because He was angry.
⁸Smoke went up from His nostrils,
And devouring fire from His mouth;
Coals were kindled by it.

With darkness under His feet.
¹⁰^(J)And He rode upon a cherub, and flew;
^(K)He flew upon the wings of the wind.
¹¹He made darkness His secret place;
^(L)His canopy around Him was dark waters
And thick clouds of the skies.

His thick clouds passed with hailstones and coals of fire.

¹³The Lord thundered from heaven,
And the Most High uttered ^(N)His voice,
^[d]Hailstones and coals of fire.
¹⁴^(O)He sent out His arrows and scattered ^[e]the foe,
Lightnings in abundance, and He vanquished them.
¹⁵Then the channels of the sea were seen,
The foundations of the world were uncovered
At Your rebuke, O Lord,
At the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.

¹⁶^(P)He sent from above, He took me;
He drew me out of many waters.
¹⁷He delivered me from my strong enemy,
From those who hated me,
For they were too strong for me.
¹⁸They confronted me in the day of my calamity,
But the Lord was my support.

He delivered me because He delighted in me.

²⁰^(R)The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the cleanness of my hands
He has recompensed me.
²¹For I have kept the ways of the Lord,
And have not wickedly departed from my God.
²²For all His judgments were before me,
And I did not put away His statutes from me.
²³I was also blameless ^[f]before Him,
And I kept myself from my iniquity.
²⁴^(S)Therefore the Lord has recompensed me according to my righteousness,
According to the cleanness of my hands in His sight.

²⁵^(T)With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful;
With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless;
²⁶With the pure You will show Yourself pure;

²⁷For You will save the humble people,

And come frightened from their hideouts.

Blessed be my Rock!
Let the God of my salvation be exalted.
⁴⁷It is God who avenges me,

⁴⁶And Mary said:

⁴⁷And my spirit has ^(B)rejoiced in ^(C)God my Savior.
⁴⁸For ^(D)He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth ^(E)all generations will call me blessed.
⁴⁹For He who is mighty ^(F)has done great things for me,
And ^(G)holy is His name.
⁵⁰And ^(H)His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.

Paul and Silas Imprisoned

¹⁶Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl ^(A)possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters ^(B)much profit by fortune-telling. ¹⁷This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” ¹⁸And this she did for many days.

But Paul, ^(C)greatly ^[a]annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” ^(D)And he came out that very hour. ¹⁹But ^(E)when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and ^(F)dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities.

²⁰And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, “These men, being Jews, ^(G)exceedingly trouble our city; ²¹and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe.” ²²Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes ^(H)and commanded them to be beaten with rods. ²³And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. ²⁴Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

The Philippian Jailer Saved

²⁵But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. ²⁶^(I)Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately ^(J)all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. ²⁷And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. ²⁸But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”

²⁹Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. ³⁰And he brought them out and said, ^(K)“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

³¹So they said, ^(L)“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” ³²Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. ³³And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. ³⁴Now when he had brought them into his house, ^(M)he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.

Paul Refuses to Depart Secretly

³⁵And when it was day, the magistrates sent the ^[b]officers, saying, “Let those men go.”

³⁶So the keeper of the prison reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent to let you go. Now therefore depart, and go in peace.”

³⁷But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us openly, uncondemned ^(N)Romans, and have thrown us into prison. And now do they put us out secretly? No indeed! Let them come themselves and get us out.”

³⁸And the officers told these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans. ³⁹Then they came and pleaded with them and brought them out, and ^(O)asked them to depart from the city. ⁴⁰So they went out of the prison ^(P)and entered the house of Lydia; and when they had seen the brethren, they encouraged them and departed.
