³ Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go up with you because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise, I might destroy you on the way.’^(A)

⁵ For the Lord said to Moses, ‘Tell the Israelites: You are a stiff-necked people. If I went up with you for a single moment, I would destroy you. Now take off your jewellery, and I will decide what to do with you.’

⁹ Then he said, ‘My Lord, if I have indeed found favour with you, my Lord, please go with us (even though this is a stiff-necked people), forgive our iniquity and our sin, and accept us as your own possession.’^(A)

⁸ Don’t become obstinate^[a](A) now as your ancestors did. Give your allegiance^[b] to the Lord, and come to his sanctuary that he has consecrated for ever. Serve the Lord your God so that he may turn his burning anger away from you,^(B)

Resisting the Holy Spirit

⁵¹ ‘You stiff-necked^(A) people with uncircumcised hearts and ears!^(B) You are always resisting the Holy Spirit. As your ancestors did, you do also.
